Register for the Western Regional Conference by Jan. 15 for Best Discount

"Strike It Rich in Sacramento" is the theme of the 2005 ACF Western Regional Conference, Feb. 17-20 at the DoubleTree Hotel in Sacramento, Calif., hosted by the California Capital Chefs Association. Through Saturday, Jan. 15, full registration is only $235 for active and associate members, $150 for student and senior members. After Jan. 15, registration increases to $300 and $175, respectively. Register for the Southeastern Regional Conference by Jan. 15 for Best Discount

The deadline for the best registration discount for the 2005 ACF Southeastern Regional Conference, with a theme of "Riding the Rails to 'The Star City,'" has been extended to Saturday, Jan. 15. The conference, hosted by the ACF Southwestern Virginia Chapter, will be held March 10-13 at The Hotel Roanoke & Conference Center. Through Jan. 15, full registration is only $275 for active members, $175 for student and senior members, $350 for associate and allied members, and $375 for non-members. After Jan. 15, registration increases to $325, $200, $400 and $425, respectively, then increases again after March 1. Apply for the 2005 CCF Little Oscar Award by Jan. 15

Chapters of the ACF Chef & Child Foundation are invited to apply for the 2005 Little Oscar Award, which recognizes exemplary work of ACF members in their communities. Regional winners will be announced at the 2005 Regional Conferences in the winter and spring; one of four regional winners will be named the national Little Oscar Award winner at ACF's 2005 National Convention in San Antonio, July 30-Aug. 3. ACF Members Help Tsunami Relief Effort

ACF members, along with other World Association of Cooks Societies (WACS) members, have been asking what they can do to help ease the unspeakable suffering in Southeast Asia in the wake of the devastating tsunami last month.
     "This is a terrible tragedy," says Edward G. Leonard, CMC, AAC, vice president of WACS and president of the ACF. "Even if each one of our members sends only one dollar, it would give us the ability to provide assistance where it is most needed at this tragic time."
     Ferdinand Metz, CMC, AAC, president of WACS, is coordinating efforts on behalf of that organization, which the United States, through the ACF, leads through 2007.
     "The ACF is honored to assist WACS in this effort," says Leonard.
     ACF has sent a $1,000 corporate contribution and is requesting that all contributions from members and chapters be sent to the ACF Chef & Child Foundation. Funds raised will be forwarded to WACS for its relief effort. All contributions will count as charitable contributions thanks to the ACF Chef & Child Foundation's 501(C)3 status. You may request a letter recognizing your donation to the ACF Chef & Child Foundation by contacting ACF's national office at (800) 624-9458.
     "We're asking every country to participate," says Metz. "We ask that chefs throughout the world engage in one fund-raising activity that can be launched expediently and successfully. We need to do that right away." Earlier this month, WACS donated 5,000 euros to the region, with more planned. Ballots were mailed from ACF headquarters to all chapters for the 2005 Hermann G. Rusch Chef's Achievement Award. award. All chapters in good standing receive one vote.
