Three Student Teams Compete in the Southeast Region Baron H. Galand
Culinary Knowledge Bowl in Charlotte, N.C.
St. Augustine, Fla., April 9,
2009—The American Culinary Federation (ACF), Inc., will
host its Southeast Region Baron H. Galand Culinary Knowledge Bowl,
sponsored by Pearson Education, Saturday, April 18, from noon to 4 p.m.
at the 2009 ACF Southeast Regional Conference, held at the Hilton
Charlotte Center City, Charlotte, N.C.
Three student teams will compete in the “Jeopardy”-style
tournament and answer challenging culinary questions drawn from five
nationally published textbooks for culinary professionals that cover
topics such as nutrition, safety and sanitation, and the art of modern
cooking. The competition is open to student teams from ACF chapters,
apprenticeship programs and accredited schools. The winning team will
advance to the national competition held at the 2009 ACF National
Convention in Orlando, Fla., in July. Here are the candidates:
ACF Greater Miami Chapter Epicurean Club,
Miami
The following students from ACF Greater Miami Chapter Epicurean Club,
Johnson & Wales University–Miami, North Miami, Fla., will
compete: Alissa Ebel, of Miami; Catherine Gonzalez, CC, of Miami; Victoria Gonzalez, of Miami; Rebecca Lerman, of Estero, Fla.; and Marisa Roussell, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The team
is coached by Alan Lazar, CCE.
Florida Culinary Institute, West Palm Beach,
Fla.
The following students from Florida Culinary Institute, West Palm Beach,
Fla., ACF Palm Beach County Chefs Association, will compete: John Aboud, of Boca Raton, Fla.; Tyler Fuller, of West Palm Beach, Fla.; Francisco Lopez, Jr., of Lake Worth, Fla.; Michael Marich, of Boynton Beach, Fla.; and Ilan Went, of West Palm Beach, Fla. The team is
coached by Steve Sitnick.
Guilford Technical Community College, Jamestown,
N.C.
The following students from Guilford Technical Community College,
Jamestown, N.C., ACF Triad Chapter NC, will compete: Laura Cheatham, of Winston Salem, N.C.; Marty Kellam, of Greensboro, N.C.; Margaret Harrison, of Greensboro, N.C.; Artley Van Pullum, of High Point, N.C.; and Victoria Sanchez, of Reidsville, N.C. The team is
coached by Alan Romano, CEC, CCE, AAC.
The ACF Baron H. Galand Knowledge Bowl competitions are named in
honor of past ACF National President Baron H. Galand, CEC, AAC, HOF, who
championed junior members and encouraged them to get involved in their
