Press Release
Four Teams of Culinary Whiz Kids Compete in the Baron H. Galand
Culinary Knowledge Bowl™ National Competition in Florida Next
Month
St. Augustine, Fla., June 9,
2009—Although school is over for most students and summer
is finally here, four teams of culinary students are still studying.
Teams will travel to Florida next month to compete in the American
Culinary Federation’s (ACF) Baron H. Galand Culinary Knowledge
Bowl™ national competition, sponsored by Pearson Education. The
competition will take place at the 2009 ACF National Convention, held at
the Orlando World Center Marriott, July 11–14.
ACF knowledge bowls are open to junior culinary teams from ACF
chapters, apprenticeship programs and accredited schools. Competition
questions are compiled from five nationally published textbooks for
culinary professionals that cover topics such as nutrition, safety and
sanitation and the art of modern cooking. The tournament is formatted
using a “Jeopardy”-style, five-by-four matrix board for
games leading to the final round, and a five-by-five matrix board for
the final round.
This year, student teams from Colorado, Florida, Maryland and
Missouri will go head-to-head for the national title. Student teams in
each of the four ACF regions first competed and won at the regional
level. Now, one winner from each region will compete for the national
title during the annual trade show, held Monday, July 13.
