Conti, CEC, AAC, HOF, Chair’s Achievement Award. Hoffstadt accepted the award during a formal ceremony and dinner at the 2009 ACF National Convention held at the Orlando World Center Marriott, Orlando, Fla., July 10.

This is the first year the Lawrence A. Conti, CEC, AAC, HOF, Chair’s Achievement Award has been presented. The award is given to a Fellow of the Academy who is not only dedicated to the American Academy of Chefs, but also to the culinary profession. This individual must be an ACF member for a minimum of 35 years and be actively involved in both AAC and ACF. Hoffstadt has achieved success in both business and culinary arts and has the respect of AAC fellows at large.

Hoffstadt retired from his executive chef and director of food services position at A.B. Dick Co., Chicago, in 1992 after 18 years of service. Hoffstadt’s illustrious culinary career began in Switzerland, where he graduated from the Hotel Business School Monita in Lucerne in 1954. He was executive chef for many European properties before immigrating to the U.S. in 1942 to begin his American career. He worked as executive chef for several stateside organizations in addition to his position at A.B. Dick Co.

Hoffstadt has been an active member of ACF Chicago Chefs of Cuisine Inc., since 1958. He served as president for four terms, was a member of the board of directors and participated in numerous committees. Hoffstadt, the recipient of many chapter and national titles, was awarded lifetime chapter membership in 1982. He has been a member of the American Academy of Chefs (AAC) since 1977, has served in many official AAC capacities and was inducted into the AAC Hall of Fame in 2002. In addition, Hoffstadt has been a member of Les Amis d’Escoffier Society of Chicago since 1972 and was inducted into the Disciples of Escoffier in 2003. Additionally, he has been a longtime member of the International Food Service Executives Association, the Honorable Order of the Golden Toque and the Catering Executive Club of America.

The Lawrence A. Conti, CEC, AAC, HOF, Chair’s Achievement Award was established in honor of Larry Conti, past vice chair and chair of the AAC, who exemplified strong leadership through personal integrity and his concern for the individual members and their careers.
