28 Chefs Go Head-to-Head Competing for Spot on
ACF Culinary Team USA
What: Twenty-eight chefs from around the
U.S. will vie for a spot on the internationally acclaimed six-member ACF
Culinary Team USA during an intense competition where the pressure is
high and skills are pushed to the limit.
Why: To determine who will be selected to
represent the United States on ACF Culinary Team USA at the 2012
International Culinary Art Exhibition (IKA), commonly referred to as the
“culinary Olympics,” in Erfurt, Germany.
When: February 20, 7 a.m.–7 p.m., and
February 21, 7 a.m.–6 p.m.
Where: Culinary Arts Center, Elgin
Community College, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin, Ill.
Visuals/Schedule:
Saturday, Feb. 20
- 7 a.m.–7 p.m.: Twenty-eight chefs go head-to-head cooking for
12 hours on the first day of tryouts.
Sunday, Feb. 21
- 7 a.m.–Noon: The competition intensifies and the 28 chefs have
only five hours to finish cooking their dishes and plate them for
judging.
- Noon: Chefs present plated dishes no later than noon or risk being
disqualified or a deduction of points.
- 12–3 p.m.: Judging of the chefs’ plated dishes to
determine who will qualify for the final elimination, hot-food
competition, in April.
- 3 pm: Plated dishes are critiqued by judges.
- 3–6 p.m.: Candidates and judges interviews (open to
public).
