St. Louis Chef James “Kevin” Storm
Named ACF Central Region Chef of the Year
Storm wins live cooking competition in Indianapolis
and heads to the national competition.
St. Augustine, Fla., March 29,
2010—James “Kevin” Storm, certified executive
chef (CEC), certified culinary administrator (CCA), American Academy of
Chefs (AAC), of Ballwin, Mo., received the American Culinary Federation,
Inc., (ACF) Central Region Chef of the Year award at the 2010 ACF
Central Regional Conference held at the Indianapolis Marriott Downtown,
Indianapolis, March 26–28. Storm, executive chef at Bellerive
Country Club, St. Louis, accepted the award at last night’s
Celebrating Regional Excellence Awards Gala.
Sponsored by Unilever Foodsolutions, the ACF Central Region Chef of
the Year award recognizes an outstanding culinarian who works and cooks
in a full-service dining facility. This person demonstrates the highest
standard of culinary skills, advances the cuisine of America and gives
back to the profession through the development of students and
apprentices. Storm competed against three other candidates before being
declared the winner. As this year’s Central Region recipient, he
will compete for the national title against the winners from the three
other ACF regions at the 2010 ACF National Convention in Anaheim,
Calif., Aug. 2–5.
Storm has been executive chef at Bellerive Country Club since 1996.
Before that, he held executive chef positions at Indian Hills Country
Club, Mission Hills, Kan., and the University Club, St. Louis. He has a
grand diploma from LaVarenne Ecole de Cuisine, Paris, and an associate
degree from Johnson County Community College, Overland Park, Kan. Storm
was a coach for ACF Culinary Youth Team USA, which placed fourth overall
in the world among youth teams at the 2008 Internationale Kochkunst Ausstellung (IKA), also
known as the “culinary Olympics,” in Erfurt, Germany. He is
a member of Chefs de Cuisine Association of St. Louis Inc.
The 2010 ACF Central Regional Conference, hosted by ACF Greater
Indianapolis Chapter, brought hundreds of chefs, cooks and foodservice
professionals to Indianapolis. The conference provided attendees with
opportunities to advance their professional development and enhance
their culinary skills through business seminars, cooking demonstrations
featuring the latest trends and techniques, cooking competitions and
awards.
