Andreas Proisl Named ACF Southeast Region Pastry
Chef of the Year
St. Augustine, Fla., April 27,
2010—Andreas Proisl, of Orlando, Fla., executive pastry
chef at Isleworth Country Club, Windermere, Fla., received the American
Culinary Federation, Inc. (ACF) Southeast Region Pastry Chef of the Year
award at the 2010 ACF Southeast Regional Conference held at the Sheraton
Birmingham Hotel, Birmingham Ala., April 24–26. Proisl accepted
the award at last night’s Celebrating Regional Excellence Awards
Gala.
Sponsored by Splenda®, the 2010 ACF Southeast Region Pastry Chef
of the Year award recognizes a pastry chef who has displayed a passion
for the craft, has an accomplished reputation in the pastry field and
has given back through the education of others by sharing his or her
skills and knowledge. Proisl did not face any competitors, but prepared
his dessert for a panel of judges who offered their critique. As this
year’s Southeast Region recipient, Proisl will compete for the
national title against the winners from the three other ACF regions at
the 2010 ACF National Convention in Anaheim, Calif., Aug. 2–5.
Proisl has more than 25 years experience in the pastry field. Trained
in Vienna, Austria, he specializes in European pastries, classic
Viennese, breakfast and French-style pastries and chocolate and sugar
showpieces. At Isleworth Country Club, where he has worked since 2000,
he provides desserts and specialty wedding cakes for the restaurants and
banquets. Proisl gained experience working at small bakeshops and hotels
in Austria and throughout Europe. In 1990, he moved to the U.S. and
worked as assistant pastry chef at the Hyatt Place Tampa
Airport/Westshore, Tampa, Fla. Prior to joining the staff at Isleworth,
he worked as executive pastry chef at the Hilton in the Walt Disney
Resort, Lake Buena Vista, Fla. He is a member of ACF Central Florida
Chapter.
The 2010 ACF Southeast Regional Conference, hosted by ACF Birmingham
Alabama Chapter, brought hundreds of chefs, cooks and foodservice
professionals to Birmingham. The conference provided attendees with
opportunities to advance their professional development and enhance
their culinary skills through business seminars, cooking demonstrations
featuring the latest trends and techniques, cooking competitions and
awards.
