WACS Global Chefs Challenge Culinary Competition in Orlando Determines the Americas Representative for 2008 Competition


St. Augustine, Fla., July 19, 2007-Twelve candidates will compete in the World Association of Chefs Societies (WACS) Global Chefs Challenge Continental Finals on July 21 at the Orlando Culinary Academy to determine who will represent the Americas at the 2008 WACS Global Chefs Competition for the title of WACS Global Chef.


The winner of Global Chefs Challenge Continental Finals for the Americas will be announced at the 2007 American Culinary Federation (ACF) National Convention, July 22 at 3 p.m. on the Trade Show floor in the Orlando World Center Marriott, and will compete in the final WACS Global Chefs Competition at the WACS World Congress, May 12-15, 2008, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, for the title of WACS Global Chef.


Competitors include chefs from North and South America. Preliminary competitions for the WACS Global Chefs Challenge began in 2006, when each WACS member country had the opportunity to hold a culinary competition or elect its candidate via other means. This year, the winners/nominees compete in continental competitions representing Africa, the Americas, Asia, the Pacific and the three European regions.


The following chefs will judge the competition: WACS World Culinary Committee Chairman Reimund Pitz, CEC, CCE, AAC, executive chef, Country Club of Orlando; Judson Simpson, CCC, executive chef of foodservices, House of Commons, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada; Steven Jilleba, CMC, CCE, AAC, corporate executive chef, Unilever Foodsolutions, Lisle, Ill.; Louis Perrotte, CEC, AAC, chef/owner of Le Coq Au Vin, Orlando; Patrick Martin, chef instructor, Le Cordon Bleu, France (apprentice judge); Tim Timlin, general manager, The Country Club of Orlando, (beverage judge); and Ellen Hutter, publisher, Restaurant Forum Magazine, (media judge).
