President’s e-News - April 15, 2011
Dear Chef:
The deadlines for ACF’s exciting student mentoring
opportunities at our 2011 ACF
National Convention in Dallas, July 22–26, are quickly
approaching. Please take the time to review the information below and
consider applying or encouraging student culinarians you know to
participate. Students are our future industry leaders, and these
programs will help them on their path to success.
Apply for Be Like “Mike” Contest by May 4 Deadline
For the second year, ACF student members who are first-, second- or
third-year full-time culinary students enrolled in either a
degree-granting, diploma or certificate postsecondary culinary program,
or who are in an ACFEF Apprenticeship Program, are invited to apply for
the Be
Like “Mike” Contest. One student will win a trip to our
ACF National Convention to shadow me. Airfare, accommodations from July
21–27, and full convention registration will be provided. Students
must submit an application, essay and other necessary documents by May 4
to be considered. The winner will be announced June 13. Learn

Student Culinarian Invitational Deadline is May 13
It’s not too late for student culinarians to apply for the
first Student
Culinarian Invitational for the chance to win full convention
registration and accommodations (double occupancy, students only) from
July 22–26 at ACF National Convention. Five teams: four two-person
teams and their mentors representing each of the four ACF regions and
one team at large will be selected to prepare their region’s
cuisine at a special reception/dinner July 23. There is no age
requirement for student culinarians to participate in the Student
Culinarian Invitational. However, students who meet the age requirements
mandated by the World Association of Chefs Societies (WACS) will also
travel, with complimentary airfare, hotel and registration, to the 2012
WACS International Congress in South Korea. The entry deadline is May
13. Winners will be announced May 31. Learn
more and apply.
Sincerely,
Michael Ty, CEC, AAC
